Kids surfing lessons are great fun. Nothing beats the thrill and sense of achievement of standing on a surfboard and surfing your first wave. Kids surfing lessons run for 1.5 hours and are suitable for children 7 years of age and up. If your kids would like to experience surfing and have some fun, a give it a go beginners surf lesson is the way to go, during this lesson kids will learn about the parts of the surfboard and how the surfboard works, how to correctly lie on the surfboard, paddle and catch waves and of course,..... how to stand up and surf a wave.

Kids surfing lessons Main Beach

All beginners surf lessons are conducted in shallow water and catching white wash waves. Kids are able to stand with their feet on the bottom at all times and they are not taken out far where the waves are bigger and more powerful. The surfboards that are provided are known as soft boards or foamies, they are specially designed beginner surfboards which make catching waves very easy and assist people trying to surf for the first time. Kids love them because they are made of soft foam and rubber which gives them extra confidence that the surfboard won't hurt them if they collides with it.

The 1st Wave Surf School runs private group surfing lessons for kids on the weekends and surfing programs on the school holidays. Many kids join a few lessons over the school holidays and have been doing so for years which increases their skill level and confidence as they grow. The 1st Wave Surf School surfing programs are a pay as you go lesson, you do not need to sign up for lengthy programs or commit to 4 or 8 weeks. If the kids have fun and want to surf again you simply just book them into another lesson.

Kids surfing lessons are not just about surfing a wave and having fun, there is also a serious component of the lesson which is surf safety. Every surf lesson includes a detailed surf check and explanation of the surfing conditions. Kids will learn about rips, currents, sandbanks, gutters, waves, tides, wind, weather, marine creatures, sand dune formation plus sun safety and beach awareness. Many of these topics they might have discussed at school but during a surfing lesson we look at it in a practical way. This surf safety education is a valuable life skill for kids that grow up near the beach or regularly visit on weekends or school holidays.

Kids surfing lessons are great fun, but a surfing birthday party is an amazing experience. When you get a group of friends all sharing their first surfing experience it is very special. The kids have so much energy and all want each other to achieve and surf a great wave and there is so much laughter as they wipeout, bump into each other and surf waves together. Parents love it as it is a healthy and active experience which provides and introduction to an activity which they may continue with for the rest of their lives.

1st Wave Surf School provides kids surfing lessons and surfing birthday parties at the Southport Surf Lifesaving Club, Main Beach. This is a great beach location as it provides all day free parking, lifeguard patrolled beach, beach cafe and surf club restaurant, adjacent shaded parklands with free BBQ's, kids playgrounds, public toilets and changing rooms. Many surfing birthday parties choose to have lunch and birthday cake in the beach cafe after the surfing lesson. Some choose to have a BBQ in the park. FIRST WAVE SURF SCHOOL MAIN BEACH

Book your learn to surf lesson on the Gold Coast with Reagan from 1st Wave Surf School Main Beach. Surf lessons are scheduled daily throughout the morning with the afternoons usually reserved for stand up paddle hire and introduction lessons.

Surf lessons are scheduled during the morning as this is when the surf conditions on the Gold Coast are the best. Private lessons are scheduled first with a preferred lesson time of 7.30am and then the beginners group learn to surf lesson is scheduled at 10am. All equipment is provided for you during your surf lesson and included in the price.

The location for the First Wave Surf School is at the Southport Surf Lifesaving Club, Macathur Parade, Main Beach, this is situated on the northern end of the Gold Coast approx 5 minutes drive north from Surfers Paradise or a few minutes south from Seaworld at the Spit. Main Beach also has a trendy cafe scene at Tedder Avenue or you could do some high end fashion shopping at the Marina Mirage Shopping Centre. Main Beach is accessible by the G-Link tram or coming by car there is plenty of free parking along the beachfront and near the surf club.

Gold Coast Beginner Surfing Beaches

Whatever level of surfer you are the Gold Coast will always deliver a great surfing wave. Unfortunately it might not be right on your doorstep but if you are prepared to travel you will find the best waves.

Currently if you head north to the Southport Spit you will find some nice sand banks and some fun waves. The Spit is always better when you get out, the left hand wave of the wall and and off the pumping jetty is good on the mid tide. At the southern end of the open beach there is a nice bank formed against the rock headland at Miami, there is not a lot of swell around but hit this bank on the high tide and you will get some waves.

If you keep heading south check out Currumbin (The Alley), this is the most popular learn to surf beach on the Gold Coast and is perfect to catch nice slow moving white waves that can run for up to 100 metres. The next pick is either Greenmount or Rainbow Bay, hits these breaks when the southerly wind is blowing and you will have perfect offshore conditions all day. Definitely worth the effort for a surf or day trip if you are staying around Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise.

Surfboard Rental is not always easy at these locations, they're are some shops that have some beginner boards but they are not right on the beach. Ride the 'G'

This Sunday see's the G-link light rail commence. After 3 years in construction you will able to jump on the 'G' and cruise from Main Beach to Surfers Paradise then cruise up to Broadbeach for lunch and back to Surfers  for an afternoon session. If you are coming from Brisbane on the train you will still have to use the translink bus service but it is an easy connection to the University Hospital Station and then it's straight to the Beach.

The 'G' has been custom built with surfboard racks so you can easily transport your hire surfboard with you all over the Gold Coast. Check out the tram times and jump on the 'G' it's the perfect way to move around the Gold Coast beaches and tourist precint.

BEGINNER LEARN TO SURF LESSON SURFERS PARADISE

Many people holiday on the Gold Coast for many reasons, theme parks, beautiful beaches, activities, tours, nightlife, the range of accommodation or simple to sit back, relax and take it easy. But for a lot there is one experience that can be life changing - SURFING!

The Gold Coast has some of the best surfing beaches in the world and this city has a real surfing culture and surfing history, can you really imagine coming to a place called 'Surfers Paradise' and not actually surfing.  

There are many options for you to experience the great waves of the Gold Coast:

(1) Total beginners should join an introduction learn to surf lesson, these lessons generally run for 2 hours, with all the equipment provided and experienced instructors take you through a step by step process until you can catch a wave and stand up. Learn to Surf Lessons in Surfers Paradise are held in small waves and waist depth water so it is suitable for kids and adults to join. We recommend the 1st Wave Surf School, they are owner operated,  the instructors are local surfers with years of experience. 

(2) Intermediate surfers can hire a surfing guide for a morning surf, a private refresher or progressional surf lesson or take a surfing day tour and experienced the best waves on the Gold Coast. Surf the Snapper super bank, check out the famous barrells at Burleigh Heads and use their local knowledge to surf the best sand banks on the Gold Coast.  Once again we recommend contacting Reagan from 1st Wave Surf School. 

(3) If you have already had a beginners surf lesson there are a few places in Surfers Paradise where you can hire a soft beginners surfboard for a half day or day, however if you are an intermediate or experienced surfer its not as easy to rent a performance surfboard.
